The Biggest-Pervasive Question for Teenagers is “Who Am I?”
This is a question that may haunt some people their entire lives…but it is an especially tough question for teens. The “influences” on our youth come from all directions, not all of it good and not all bad. Without God’s guidance, the “influences” will define us and shape us – making us a clone. And clones are neither real nor authentic.
- At Calvary in West Asheville, we seek to create a safe, exciting and nurturing space for youth to learn who they are, who God is, and the radical plan that God has for their lives.
- We are inspired by God’s proclamation in Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Students will be taught the bible without it being dumbed-down and they will not be asked to leave their brains and opinions at the door.
- We want to know what are youth are thinking, feeling and hoping.
- We also seek to be a church that blesses the community. As culture and media seek to create new “consumers” in the American consumerist machine, we at Calvary will nurture producers, builders and heroes.
- We seek to be real and authentic, we have no desire to look “religious” or “fake.” We seek to resemble the most real, powerful and authentic person ever – Jesus.
When our youth ask the question “Who Am I?”
- We hope they will answer, “I am God’s and he is mine. I am the person God has made me to be and I am on mission to live out my God designed plan, no matter what comes my way.”
